Do Movies and TV Shows Give Unrealistic Expectations Of Love?

Public Group

I think humans like shiny, new things. This goes for just about everything. When you start up a new series of books and you adore the characters and the world. There is nothing like exploring it for the first time. You may even be obsessed with it, crave more of it cause it’s so perfect and original and there will never be anything like it again. But months go by and the feeling dulls into simple fondness. Then you find another book that fills you the same passion again. This happens with new jobs, living spaces, new toys and gadgets. We crave that initial burst of pure passion.

But most romance media is focused on that first stage. It’s what's most popular, happy, innocent, fun. Nobody wants to deal with that problematic middle. Even in TV and movies, it’s like they don’t even know what to do with their characters once they get together. They either break them up or keep the relationship stationary. I wish there was more exploration in media but I understand it’s hard and it’s probably not going to profitable to have your story start in the midst of an argument with your significant other.

You sound like an ass. Men cheat, lie and deceive women all the time. Women treat men how they're treated, so if you've never had someone treat you the way you want to be treated you might want to take a look at how you treat them. I know my worth and know how i deserve to be treated, and if someone im dating doesnt do that...boy BYE

Unrealistic expectations such as treating a women like a 'queen'. Also I thought women wanted to be treated equally to men, so are women out here treating men how they should be treated or does that not fit into your perspective of how the dynamics of a relationship work for you?

What to you mean by 'unrealistic expectations'? The fact that these days it's hard to find a man who treats a woman how she should be treated?

I disagree Bethan. Maybe parents shouldn't let their children watch films and TV shows like that and let them grow up to believe they're going to meet their 'Prince Charming' one day when in fact it'll probably end in heartbreak because women have these unrealistic expectations.

100% they do. Girls grow up to think that relationships are like fairytales and they'll have a happily ever after moment. But in reality it doesnt always work out like that for most people.
